Hello - What's your Memory?

Update Feb 2008 - Evidently the GSC has discontinued the program, but I'm sure it will return at some time. It really has a very unique iconic quality that you just dont get anywhere else. Another great program that should be distributed again is the interviews done in the 1960's with Dick Cavett. Your thoughts?

I started the Blog to reach out to other people who remember growing up watching (or their parents watching) "What's My Line". The Game Show Channel is running these episodes now, and they are fascinating. The re-runs of the program (late 50's through 60's) have some great TV and Cinema icons in their prime as guest panel members, or appearing as a 'mystery guest'. Seeing them outside their famous roles is interesting. Many are relaxed, having some fun stumping the panel during the 'surprise guest' segment. Some of the guests sign in as Mr or Miss X, since their name would immediatly reveal their identity, but their face would not.

Some of the recent episodes include Henry Fonda, Gina Lollabrigida, Bobby Nichols.

Since starting the blog here are some notable episodes:
Henry Fonda was the MG - after finishing filming the movie "Fail Safe" - in his banter with John Daly he talked about his children... Jane was in Europe... he looked terrific. Anyone remember the commercials Herny Fonda used to make for GIF in 1969-70?...and the distinct way he used to say "GIF"... I used to imitate it in school...must have been about 1970 when he made the GIF commercials.

episode...Groucho Marx as PG (panel guest) was full of mischief and kind of got on the other panelists nerves who take the game pretty seriously, especially Dorothy Gilgallen.

episode...Arlene Francis was away in Europe filming a movie called "1,2,3", her husband Martin Gable joined the panel as a guest. Susie Parker was the MG - just filmed "summer World"...some other guests that night were a Peace Corp volunteer Michael Lanigan-this must have been a 1962 episode since they mentioned President Kennedy.

episode...Miss Icelend is guest, winner of Miss Universe pagent (10th Anniversary). VERY COOL MG tonight were Togi Berra, had just reached 2000th hit and near Mickey Mantle and Roger Marris records - John Daly always mentions some interesting facts about the guests after all the cards are turned. Berra was MVP 1951, 54...
